History & Mission

What makes a world class wine? We believe the answer to this fundamental question lies in the cutting edge viticulture, pride of ownership, dedication to quality and pursuit of perfection, all resulting in wines of extraordinary character and elegance. These traits were already reflected on the conception and culmination of our passion for wine making.
Mohan Rao Ravulapati, owner of Ryhan Estate Vineyards, grew up in India where wine was a rarity. He was committed to improving the region through wine growing and making wines of the highest quality consumers can enjoy drinking. Mohan moved to America in 1980’s and wanted to create a tradition of excellence that he envisioned long ago. After moving to California and working in the corporate world and juggling with various businesses for 25 years, the appeal of growing wine grapes and returning to his passion was imbedded and irresistible to him. Seeing that California is one of the most prominent places for wine growing, he knew his enthusiasm and dream would finally become a reality.
He implemented his first stage of the winery in 2007 by selecting the ideal location for his family’s vineyards. In order to acheive his goal of making world-class wines, he selected a location that would assure successful growth of top quality grapes. Following years of hard-work, dedication and support of his family to the art of wine making, Ryhan Estate Vineyards has successfully adopted quality over quantity as their main philosophy and introduced their two medal winning red-wines – Rouge Sang and Malbec, with many more great wines to come in the near future.
The inspiration for the company's name comes from combining Mohan’s last three initials of his first name with his wife’s two middle initials of her first name, Surya. Surya actively assists in coordinating administrative aspects of the wine business while Mohan’s two children, Rahul and Ravali, manage the marketing and establishing of Ryhan Estate Vineyards as a renowned source of fine wines.
